Fring beats Skype to Market with Video Chat for iPad 2

Skype for iPad 2 will be released very soon but Fring already has lept ahead of Skype and released it’s own video conference feature. Fring allows up to four people to simultaneously video chat, right in the iPad 2 window. When the iPad 2 was announced, we weren’t surprised about the inclusion of front and rear-facing cameras for video recording and video chatting. FaceTime has been such a big hit for Apple so now, Fring has introduced the ability to conduct group video calling for it’s most current iPad app update.
Fring, which supports multiple chat clients and video calling, is the first to enable this feature for the iPad tablet and we are looking forward to seeing how smooth the video chat experience actually will be. This top iPad app will make full use of multi-touch gestures on the iPad 2 and supports free voice calls to MSN, Yahoo!, and Google Talk. Continue reading

Invisibility iPad 2 App

Everyone enjoys the mystery of magicians and how entertaining the world of illusion can be. Levity Novelty has developed a spell binding iPad 2 app called Invisibility. It is not magic but you will want to play with this and entertain your friends with this riveting technology for your iPad 2. This iPad 2 app creates the illusion that the iPad 2 screen is transparent glass as if you can see straight through the iPad tablet.
This app uses the built in technologies of the iPad 2 by using a combination of the iPad 2 cameras, 3D gyroscope and accelerometers to create this mystery of illusion. Basically this iPad 2 app tracks the movement of your iPad and updates the display accordingly in order to keep the background image aligned as if the display were transparent. Plus, you can load up your own image and turn it into an endless Kaleidoscope-like browsable surface. The app also responds to perspective tilt and throws realistic shadows for some added bedazzlement. As you will see in the YouTube video (after the break) this iPad 2 app attempts to make the display of your iPad tablet “invisible” by calling up some clever back-camera wizardry with the design of this app. You will definitely want to take your iPad 2 along to the next party and corporate event you attend to have some fun and play with the minds of anyone a little intoxicated. ThisiPad 2 app is available on the app store for .99 cents. Continue reading

Guitar Pedalboard for the iPad

My son is a passionate guitarist or in current vernacular -a guitarhead. He uses his iPad 2 along with his guitar on a daily basis with apps like the Guitar World Lick of the Day. Today his mind was blown by Digitech’s new iPad Pedalboard. This iPad news for guitarists allows for docking the iPad to the Digitech programmable pedalboard. With DigiTech’s new iPB-10 Programmable Pedalboard, guitarists actually slot the iPad tablet into the built-in docking bay and then connect the instrument and amp to the back of the iPad pedaboard. This offers guitarists a drag and drop chain of digital effects along with the free Pedalboard iPad 2 app and then use the physical footswitches to control the action. This is a creative marriage between a musicians pedalboard and this iPad 2 accessory.

The iPB-Nexus iPad 2 app that comes along with the pedalboard allows users to string up to 10 effects at once, also providing users with up to 87 different pedal choices. Users can create a range of effects like wah, distortion, chorus, flangers and phasers. Shipping of the Digitech iPad Pedalboard starts shipping in June for a whopping $700! If a hardcore guitarist does not yet own an iPad 2 I’m guessing they may be tempted to buy one just to put this combination together.

Roadshow is a new iPad 2 app for offline video

Roadshow is an iPad 2 app that was just released on the app store that we thought you video watchers might find helpful.  With this iPad app you can collect web videos for offline viewing which is a great idea. Unfortunately, Apple would not allow YouTube videos to be saved in the development of this iPad 2 app because it violated the terms of service. I’m a frequent TED Talks video watcher so this works really good for HTML5 based video but not flash video. Vimeo, MSNBC are some others sites that work well using this video app for the iPad.

How to save videos.

Roadshow has a built-in web browser that you can use to land on your favorite websites. When you find a compatible video, you’ll see it show up in a horizontal scrolling icon list above the browser. To download and save the video for offline viewing on your iPad, tap the action button on a video icon and a bar shows you download progress. You can also touch with one finger on a video in the found video shelf to see its full title. Roadshow puts the captured video onto a “collection” shelf where all video clips are stored. To watch your offline saved video, you simply tap on it and then tap the play button. The video goes to full-screen mode and when your done you can delete the video using the trash can icon. Sharing videos with friends is easy. Simply tap a button to send a link to friends via Twitter or email. Fetch Softworks (my favorite Mac FTP client maker) showed some innovation in the design of this app which is something to build on. This will only get better with time and as Flash starts to be replaced with HTML5. Roadshow is a top iPad app that is intuitive, easy-to-use, and a great way to watch offline video on your iPad. It is available on the app store for free and to remove the ads for $4.99 in-app purchase.  Video instructions below. Continue reading

iPad 3 will squash Amazon tablet pc?

It might make sense for Apple to release the iPad 3 ahead of expectations in time for the 2011 holiday season. Research firm CLSA told the WSJ that Apple will unveil its new iPad 3 just in time for the 2011 holiday shopping season.
Now with the news that Amazon is going to jump into the tablet stream and will launch models in August or September makes us think that Apple may also move up it’s plans for an iPad 3 release. This will further crush the competition’s efforts to catch up to Apple’s dominance with the iPad tablet. With rumors of an iPad 3 due out this year may cause some to hold off on Amazon’s tablet offering and wait to see what the iPad 3 will bring.

Remember, that iPad 3 speculation started even before the launch of the new iPad 2 release. The most recent reports suggest that it’s possible early production on the iPad 3 has already begun according to well known supply chain blog Digitimes. Apple may be moving up release dates from every 12 months to every 6 months for the iPad and iPhone. This would be a shift in strategy and may cause some consumers to be a little frustrated with their current purchase. But with competition expanding with Amazon it makes strategic good sense.
