United Airlines Gives Out 11,000 iPads to Pilots

So many industries are adopting the iPad tablet as a solution to replace massive printed material whether it be text books or flight bags for commercial pilots. United Airlines announced today that they have made a complete transition to replace flight bags of navigation charts and manuals by offering their pilots 11,000 iPad 2 devices. Delta and American airlines have also gotten on board using the iPad 2 as flight bags.

Putting flight bags on the iPad tablet is a big cost saver because the airlines can save around 40 pounds of paper weight per pilot. Smart decision by the airlines since the iPad is so much easier for pilots to navigate and easier to keep up to date along with the ease of the iPad touch interface.  Continue reading

Faulty Skype iPad 2 App Release (update:it’s available)

Last night the long awaited Skype iPad 2 App was released to the US app store but was quickly yanked by Skype within a few hours. If you remember a few months back Skype had another faux pas when they posted a YouTube video demoing their upcoming iPad 2 app which they also pulled quickly. Is this a new kind of marketing ploy where you blunder to get press? Maybe the Skype employee responsible for pushing the button on their new iPad 2 app has a neurological tic that causes PSR (Premature Skype Release). Could it be the curse of being in the process of being acquired by Microsoft? Skype’s response to their goof came by way of Twitter at about midnight EST which you can see in the screen capture above.  Continue reading

iPad education apps

My children are sad that summer has ended and now it’s back to school. However, one school has a remedy for the end of summer blues. Hand out an iPad 2 tablet to each student in your school instead of textbooks. Lake Minneola High School in Central Florida are doing just that. This is the first public school in Central Florida to purchase the iPad 2 for all their students at a cost of  about $700,000. However, school officials believe that the iPad 2 investment will actually save them money over the cost of textbooks.  Continue reading

Review: Snugg iPad 2 Case and Stand

Admittedly, I enjoy the beauty and design of the iPad 2 so much that I prefer it naked without a case. However, I do realize the need for protection especially recently when a friend dropped my iPad 2 while watching a video. Thankfully it hit carpet and there was no damage. Finding a case that elegantly matches up with the iPad’s stunning design is a challenge. Some iPad 2 cases that we’ve reviewed seem rushed to market and get negative marks for design points.

ipad 2 cases by SnuggIn this iPad 2 case review we’re looking at the Snugg iPad 2 Leather Case Cover and Flip Stand. The first thing we notice with this iPad 2 case is the classy business style design of this black faux leather case and stand. There is high quality off-white stitching along the edges and stiff extra protection under the front and rear cover of this iPad 2 case. The interior has a lovely suede feeling inside which is soft to the touch to keep scratches away from your iPad 2. (video demo below break) Continue reading
